PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has revealed how Boko Haram insurgency started in Nigeria

- He said Boko Haram terrorists were offshoots of political thuggery –

Nigeria's former vice president and presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has said, he knows how Boko Haram started in the country.

In an interview with The African Reports, which he shared on his verified Twitter handle, @atiku, Atiku said that, politicians were to be blamed for the emergence of Boko Haram in Nigeria.

Speaking on how he was going to solve the challenge of Boko Haram terrorism, he said: “I happen to know how Boko Haram came into being. They were offshoots of political thuggery.

Politicians used those boys in Boko Haram to win elections and then abandoned them and then there were no jobs for them. It was the same thing with the Niger Delta. In 1998, I saw it myself and I warned people. Read more

“It’s going to be a multifaceted approach. It will involve negotiations. It will involve military action.

The former vice president also criticised the President Buhari-led government’s anti-corruption strategy, saying that, "You can’t deploy only punitive measures to fight corruption. IS STEPHEN ODEY THE HOTTEST NIGERIAN STRIKER IN EUROPE?

We are few games into the European season for the 2018/2019 season and as most Nigerian strikers are battling to find their scoring range, one has been impressive so far for Swiss side FC Zurich.

Former MFM FC boy wonder Stephen Odey struggled to make hay in his first season in Europe following his transfer in January but since the start of this season he has ‎turned into one of the stars of the team.
Already his goal tally in all competitions is the highest among all Nigerian players in Europe after six rounds of games and three cup games in Switzerland this season for Europa League campaigners FC Zurich.
The 20 year old boast of two goals in the league and three in the cup from the eight games he has played this season and the manner which he has been able to combine his pace, power and finishing has also caught the eyes.

Not known for his aerial prowess while playing in the Nigeria Profesional Football League few seasons ago, he has added that to his game and he is now comfortable playing as the lone striker for his club as witnessed in their 1-0 Europa League win over AEK Larnaca of Greece.
A senior international for Nigeria with one cap to his name, his recent form will no doubt put him in the frame to be considered for future call ups particularly if he continue his rich vein of form in front of goal.

CURE FOR AIDS DISCOVERED AT LAST!

Scientists are inching closer to a cure for the Human Immuno-deficiency Virus (HIV), as the first immunotherapy drug proves safe for use in humans.

The first trial is an early but significant milestone for the team at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, United States (U.S.), which won a $20 million grant to realise its ideas.

Immunotherapy in the last couple of years, which trains a person’s immune system to attack a disease, became mainstream, and is being used to treat scores of conditions, from cancer to blindness.

However, scientists tread lightly when it comes to HIV, because attempts in the last 20 years to cure the virus with bone marrow transplants (another mainstream treatment, which replaces a person’s immune system with that of a donor) had proved fatal in all but one person.

For the first time, in a study published yesterday by the journal, Cell Reports, the North Carolina team confirmed its hopes: that immunotherapy could be administered to HIV-positive patients without a realistic risk of death – and many are tipping it as proof of a cure to HIV.

Co-senior author of the new paper, Dr. David Margolis, said: “We think that we will be able to replicate the results of the Berlin patient (the only person ever cured of HIV), but that will take a while, on a step-by-step trajectory.”

Meanwhile, no fewer than 20 million Nigerians are dying before they turn 70, a major report has revealed.

Scientists analysed the number of deaths from cancer, heart disease, lung disease and diabetes across 180 countries.

They calculated the probability of a 30-year-old man and woman dying before they turn 70 in each of the nations.

The report, published in the Lancet, is one of the most detailed global studies of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in history.
